[edit] AAdvantage in UK

[edit] Web sites

There seems little incentive to use the limited facilities of www.americanairlines.co.uk - the only benefit seems to be any special offers shown on the home page. To change the default site for aa.com, clear the cookies in your browser, and reselect your preferred site.

[edit] Phone numbers (reservations and AAdvantage)

020 7365 0777 7am-7pm M-F, 8:30am-5pm SS.

GLD/PLT/EXP 08082 389 847 (New Number a/o 2 January 2010)

There is no longer any web service support in the UK. UK agents can contact web support, or you can phone web services in the US, but they can't deal with international fares: 1-800-222-2377

[edit] AAdvantage partners

AAdvantage shopping is currently suspended in UK.

A new AAdvantage credit card is about to be announced.

If you travel frequently, it is worth getting a credit card that does not charge commission on foreign exchange: see moneysupermarket.com.

AAdvantage Dining is only in the USA and Canada, but you can use it while visiting. Unless you have a US address, you need to phone to join: 1–800–479–5981.

Hotel bookings (in $) are good value, and earn 250 miles per stay.

[edit] Ticket prices

aa.com has regular ticket sales, and usually match BA transatlantic fare sales. There is a sale after Christmas each year, and regular sales during the year, but you can't really judge how good the price is unless you have a historical record of prices on a particular route. If you know in advance where you are travelling, it may be useful to use Yapta.

Availability of particular fare classes on flights may depend on region, so it can be worth changing the country of residence to United States on the aa.com booking page, to compare prices.

[edit] Maximising mileage

Prices to many US destinations may be little different if routed via DFW or MIA, which can significantly increase the mileage. Although not as many miles different, typically, most east coast sale fares are good through ORD as well.

[edit] Heathrow

PLT and EXP are entitled to use fast track security at T3, and the BA lounges.
