[edit] AUS – Austin, TX, USA

Overview: Austin Bergstrom International Airport is comprised of two terminals. The main Barbara Jordan Terminal stretches east-west with all airport infrastructure on the north side. There is also a South Terminal used for VivaAerobus flights to Mexico. American operates from gates 13-15, 17 and 25.

AA has 5 daily flights to Chicago-O'Hare (ORD), 15x Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), 2x Raleigh-Durham (RDU), 1x Seattle (SEA),3x San Jose CA (SJC), 4x Los Angeles (LAX), 2x St. Louis (STL), Louisville (SDF), 2x Minneapolis (MSP), 1x Nashville (BNA), 2x NY La Guardia (LGA), 2x Orange County (SNA), 1x Orlando (MCO), 1x Portland OR (PDX), 2x Sacramento (SMF), 1x Tampa, 1x Toronto CAN (YYZ), 1x Tucson (TUS) and 1x Washington Reagan (DCA). Many of the flights listed as going to airports other than DFW or ORD stop at one of those locations first.

Service to Dallas Love Field (DAL) and Kansas City MO (MCI) was discontinued on July 1. Other flights will be reduced in the fall as American cuts back its schedule.

Security: There are two security checkpoints in the center of the airport between the two ticketing spaces at games 8-9 and 10-11 and another line at the far right (West) end of the terminal which exits at approximately gate 16. Given American’s gate location this frequently is the best line to use and often has shorter lines in general. There are no Elite, First class, CLEAR or other special security lines.

Lounge: There is an Admirals Club and a Presidents Club in the mezzanine area .

Transportation: Transportation is located directly outside the baggage claim area on the far island. Taxis, hotel shuttles and door-to-door vans are available here. A taxi to the downtown area where most hotels are located will be around $30.

Public transportation is available via the Capital Metro bus service. The 100 Route “Airport Flyer" is the route that serves ABIA. The Capital Metro station is located at the right end of the concourse as you exit the baggage claim area. The fare is $.50 and it takes around 20 minutes to get to the center of the downtown district. The Austin area has limited bus service over much of Austin and is implementing commuter rail from Leander (a northwest suburb) to downtown this fall. There is a proposal for rapid bus service to the airport but that is currently in the planning states.

Food: There are a number of food outlets after security but limited availability before the security checkpoints. Many local businesses have concessions including Schlotzky’s Deli, The Salt Lick BBQ, Mangia Pizza, and Austin Java (coffeehouse).

Other Services: There is free live music regularly scheduled behind the Austin Java in the center of the terminal inside security.
