[edit] Creating a new page

The easiest way to make a new wiki page is to create a link. Edit an existing page, and create a link to your new page. Then follow that link to the new page, go into editing mode and create your page.

[edit] Editing pages

To edit a page click the edit link near the top of the page and go to work!

Check out this page to learn more about how you can format and organize the information in a page to make it look just the way you want.

[edit] Step By Step Example (for American Airlines)

#'''I want to upgrade what can I do?''' See [[My Article Name (AA)]].
  • When you press save, you'll notice that the link is in red because you haven't added the actual article yet. When naming articles, make sure that there is some sort of category identifier like (AA). That will ensure that your Upgrade (AA) article won't collide with someone's Upgrade (BA) article. Now, click on the link to edit the article.
  • Here is a small snippet of an article to get you started. Remember to add the category to the end of the article. If you don't and you can't find the article that you've written, use the wiki search to find it.
=== This a heading in my article ===
And now I am going to make a couple of points:
*My First Point
*My Second Point

[[Category:American Airlines]]
  • Now if you like, you can go back to the original page and remove the initial link since the article will now appear in the category list.

[edit] Important FlyerGuide Conventions

[edit] Article Naming

To avoid naming conflicts, ALWAYS append an identifier to the end of your page! Some of the original articles written on the wiki do not use this convention. Please make sure that the new articles do follow the convention (and consider renaming and cleaning up the old ones).

So if you're writing an article about Upgrades on American Airlines, don't call your article Upgrades. Call it Upgrades (AA) - that way we won't have to worry about naming collisions and when people do a wiki search, they be able to identify where the articles belong to.

[edit] Using Templates

If you're writing text that can be recycled into multiple articles, consider creating a template. As an example, if you're writing an article on Booking Classes on AA, but there are also some Oneworld booking classes that you would like to include, then follow these steps:

  1. Edit the your article
  2. Put in the reference to the template (ie the Oneworld booking classes that will be shared amongst multiple articles) by adding Template:Name of the template
  3. Save the article
  4. Follow the link to the template to edit it and insert the shared text.
  5. Now if someone wants to write something about Cathay Pacific, they can insert that oneworld template that you created.

[edit] Inserting Images

Do not insert copyrighted images! The general convention is to upload images into the FlyerTalk gallery and then put the links on the wiki pages. Linking to images outside of FlyerTalk is discouraged (and some browsers may not even display the cross-domain images anyway).
